As 5G rollouts become prevalent around the globe and network providers look for new revenue streams to make use of their powerful infrastructure, the built-in versatility of this generation poses an important challenge for product and chipset designers. The complexity of use cases, and their variety, requires a nimble, adaptable, and almost customized approach for each device and end-user looking to implement 5G in their product or location. The 5G design challenge exists across different verticals: chips and hardware in a vehicle might not be applicable to a large manufacturing setting, and so on. This means any successful 5G rollout or application must have a robust, experienced design and testing team in place. How can the ecosystem deliver high quality IoT devices to high performance without reinventing the wheel with each use case? How can suppliers make the most of their experience designing for 5G applications into a competitive advantage? Should energy efficiency be the starting point for any 5G device design? How will this challenge evolve as we look ahead towards 6G?
