Many advances in Industrial IoT have been made in the areas of security, data collection, and analytics, but open standards have been largely lacking at the sensor domain until now.  This presentation outlines (with examples) how new open-standards from PICMG can be applied to create smart sensors and smart motors capable of complex factory automation tasks such as multi-axis motion control.  Examples, including a proof-of-concept CNC machine, will be used to demonstrate these concepts.
