COVID-19 has accelerated many new innovative technologies and applications to help combat the pandemic. In this presentation, we will highlight new technologies, applications and use cases that have been introduced as a result of this pandemic including:
  • Physical “people counters” that give you the protection of controlling the capacity in any given room.
  • Using Infineon’s proprietary radar sensing technology, organizers at Sensors Converge can measure the distance between you and the person next to you to ensure a safe 6-feet distance.
  • Our CO2 sensor technology can detect the carbon monoxide levels in any given room, along with the aerosols being ‘sprayed into the air’ that can transmit COVID. This technology measures the air quality in any given room and can flag conference managers to reduce the number of people in a given room or automatically turn-on the HVAC systems or provide adequate ventilation for protection
  • Our Time of Flight (ToF) technology can also be applied to directly detect the identity of people with 3D mapping of their faces where contact tracing might be required.
  • Touchless applications using radar and/or ToF technology to sense fine gesture control with simple hand motions that can be used to reduce the need to touch surfaces for sanitizing, inputting data and more.
  • New sensor technologies such as ultrasonic microphones that can be used in both acoustic modes and sensing modes so existing devices can “hear” and detect human sound as normal, but also sense their surroundings when ‘hearing’ the ultrasonic frequency range simultaneously. This allows a single device to operate as a hearing device such as a smart speaker, while detecting a person or gesture simultaneously.
  • Further protective measures can be implemented with even more sophistication by combining multiple sensors is a sensor fusion design for even greater protection.
The question becomes: which of these technologies are here to stay after the pandemic. We think many of these will be a part of your everyday life. After this presentation, the audience will learn about new up-and-coming technologies that may be here to stay post-pandemic.
